This blog was established to keep viewers updated on the transition to DTV and the steps and improvements WWNY & WNYF were taking. The transition to all DTV broadcasts was completed by WWNY and a transition to DTV by WNYF has also been accomplished, even though the FCC has not mandated that change for Low-power stations.
While our transmission infrastructure is complete we continue to seek improvements. WWNY continues to explore a power increase and we are continually improving our production facilities, so that we can expand our HDTV offerings.
Many viewers are still frustrated with reception issues. This is a characterisitic of DTV...we can't change the laws of physics. We can reccomend that you install the best UHF/VHF outdoor antenna you can to combat reception issues. For tips on antennas & their orientation towards our towers visit www.antennaweb.org. the website address you gave for reception problems does not work.
Sorry...the address is www.dtv.gov/fixreception.html
Is there any possibility of a power increase for the repeater in Norwood ? I live in the south end of Ottawa and 7 is received better than 28
Just curious ? I have a Mini State steerable directional antenna up 60' on my tower PBS in Norwood is received in the high 80's on the S meter where WWNY 28 is 30-40 % I am aware that they are licensed for greater power though at that site.
Thanks
WNYF-LD from St Lawrence Co was licensed for the greatest amount of power we could without interference issues with adjacent markets. This is further complicated because we are a border station and required International review/coordination.
WNYF-LD is also an LPTV station so its signal would never be as great as WWNY's...but perhaps a different antenna orientation (or antenna)can yield a greater signal.
Ref: WNYF, I pick up this station sometimes in Montreal. Really depends on the weather. I noticed that 28.1 and 28.2 are full 16:9 raster on screen. Are placing two 720p signals on WNYF?
28.1 is 480 SD video, 28.2 is 1080i HD.
Can anyone advise me if they are having difficulty getting the program guide on WNYF-LD channels 28.1 & 28.2? When you might have lost them, if they are gone?
I get 28 sporadically here in Ottawa, but I've never seen any program guide data on 28-1 or 28-2 from the St Lawrence County transmitter.
Channel 28 which is licensed to Massena and broadcasts from S. Colton NY is experiencing problems with its electronic guide. Engineers are working on the problem.
I see that your submission to the FCC to maximize channel 7 to 42 kW in concert with the other channel 7 and 8 stations in New York State appeared on the FCC website at the end of February.
Any idea of timelines for approval and then implementation?
We've been told Canadian coordination takes 2-3 months.
I see that the Construction Permit for the application to increase power to 42 kW was granted on May 24. Do you have a timeline now? Do oyu need to wait for the other channel 7 stations to complete their work, too?
Equipment has been ordered and we suspect it will be 6-8 Weeks before it is delivered. We then have to schedule an installation crew from the transmitter manufacturer. WWNY does not have to wait for the other channel 7's to increase its power....we suspect all will be complete by Fall.
Jim;
I just installed an 8-bay antenna in my attic and am receiving WNYF-LP 24/7 here in south Ottawa.
I understand that it would be difficult to broadcast 2 HD signals, but why is the Fox SD programming 4:3 format? Are there any plans to broadcast SD in 16:9 format?
When WNYF broadcasts 16:9 widescreen shows the screen format should change automatically to that. WNYF really only broadcasts FOX Prime & Sports in widescreen.
